INTRODUCTION

Avian Adventures was founded by Gerry Griffiths in 1993 and has since grown into one of the leading UK-based birdwatching tour companies. Our programme for 2009 includes more than 40 tours in 30 different countries and several more new destinations have been added.

You will not find us claiming here that any one of our tours is the cheapest available to a particular destination, although in some instances it will be. Nor do we claim to see more birds on a particular tour than every other company, although sometimes we probably do. In fact we deliberately avoid the kind of extravagant and unsupportable claims that you will find being made by some other companies.

What we do claim is a loyal following of people who travel with us regularly, people who find that the style and pace of our tours is to their liking and that the standard of accommodation and transport that we use meets or exceeds their expectations.

We do not judge the success of our tours simply by the number of bird species seen. Nor do we treat watching birds as a competitive sport. We try to allow time to actually look at the birds and not just tick them off on a list and move on to the next. If this sounds to be the approach you are looking for, then why not come and join us on an Avian Adventure.

If you should prefer a birdwatching tour tailored to your specific requirements, or wish to visit one of our venues at a different time of year than that shown in our programme, then we will be pleased to try and help. Using our extensive network of expert ground operators and guides, it may well be possible for us to arrange a holiday to meet your individual needs.

If your particular interest is photography, then we specialise in arranging tours for small groups and can provide a driver/guide to accompany them.

We can also arrange group holidays for clubs, societies etc.

Carbon-offsetting

We are subjected everyday by the news media to reports about global warming and carbon emissions and we are all being made increasingly aware of our so-called carbon footprint. Although it accounts for only a very small percentage of carbon emissions, air travel has been an easy target and has been singled out for particular criticism.
Disappointingly, we see rather little coverage alongside these reports of the many benefits that tourism brings to the countries to which we travel by air. Not least of these benefits in the case of ecotourism is the increased protection that undoubtedly results for the valuable wildlife habitats that we visit and the species that we travel to see.
Without doubt it is a big subject, but one we no longer feel able to ignore. Avian Adventures has no intention of starting yet another carbon-offsetting scheme or collecting any payments from clients for this purpose. However, if you are persuaded to offset your own personal carbon emissions by paying an amount into one of the many schemes already available, we would like to draw to your attention the World Land Trust. At http://www.worldlandtrust.org  you can calculate an amount to pay that will not only offset your emissions from air travel, but also those from your domestic appliances, cars, home-heating and the rest of your 21st Century life-style. This amount can then be used to support rainforest conservation.
